All three of the famous cases of unintentional plagiarism referenced on the previous page could have been avoided if the authors correctly cited their sources. You can avoid unintentional plagiarism in your own work by:
- Understanding the principles of when you must cite
- Getting in the habit of including quotation marks, page numbers, and other citation information during the research process, especially when cutting and pasting from online sources
- Using a consistent citation style
- Employing citation software to help keep track of your sources
