Tips

Good data management can make the process of analysis much easier, so let's recap some of the tips from earlier phases.

Make sure the data you plan to collect will answer your research questions. Ask for help with statistics or other analytical techniques so you don't waste time and data.

Take snapshots of your data at these key points, at least. A snapshot is just a locked copy of your data files, saved to a backup storage location. These files should not be changed; they are for reference only. That means you make a copy of the file for editing or before moving on to the next phase (and be sure to rename it!).

raw data (before it is cleaned and processed)
your processed data (before it is analyzed)
the data used for your analysis, any analytical scripts or procedures used, and detailed notes about why data were selected for analysis or excluded

During the analysis process, help yourself by taking good notes and clearly versioning your analysis scripts and files

IUanyWare
IUanyWare is a virtual environment with data processing and analysis tools, among other programs. These include programs like SPSS, Stata, SAS, R & RStudio, MATLAB, ArcGIS, Mathematica, and more.

Tableau Public
Tableau Public is free software that can allow anyone to connect to a spreadsheet or file and create interactive data visualizations for the web.
UITS Advanced Visualization Lab (AVL) systems and facilities
The UITS Advanced Visualization Lab (AVL) promotes and supports the innovative application of visual technologies to enhance research, education, creative activity, and community outreach at Indiana University. AVL systems and facilities are provided as an integrated resource by the Office of the Vice President for Information Technology (OVPIT) and are available at no direct cost for routine use, testing, and demonstration by qualified IU students, faculty, and staff. Some technologies are accessible in centrally located AVL spaces; some are installed in a variety of campus spaces, such as lobbies and atriums. The AVL also maintains a library of visual technologies available for loan, which complement its central and publicly accessible displays and facilities.
