Importing Works to Activity Insight

Data entry tips for completing the faculty annual review.

What is PubMed?

PubMed is a free resource that is developed and maintained by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), located at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  Learn more about PubMed at: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/

What is this page?

This page will show you how to import your publications from PubMed to your Digital Measures Activity Insights (DMAI) profile.

Why should I do this?

If you frequently publish in journals that are indexed in PubMed, this will save you time. This is not the only way to import your citations into Activity Insight. You can also use a BibTeX file. There are a variety of other ways documented on the Digital Measures web site.

How do I do this?

Step 1. In the Activity Insights, under 'Research/Creative Activity', select the "Publications/Scholarship of Discovery" section.

Step 2. Select "Import" at the top of the page to choose the Third Party from which to import.

Step 3. Under 'Import from a Third Party' section, review the 'Select a Service' option and select PubMed. Next, review the author name under the 'Search Criteria' section, and click search.

Step 4. Select publications to import.

Choose to import all items or select only the relevant or new items from the PubMed record via the check boxes. After making your selections, click "Continue."

Step 5. Resolve duplicates by selecting skip.

If you imported items that are already in your Activity Insights profile, you can choose to skip them.

Step 6. Select the items to import by clicking import at the bottom of the page, and then click continue at the top.

Step 7. Match IU Co-authors to IU Usernames.

If you have co-authors from IU, match their name to their IU user account.

Step 8. Finish import.

Step 9. Edit imported items.

Some data elements cannot be imported from PubMed. For example, you will need to edit individual items to identify an "Area" (e.g., "Teaching").
