Data Storage at IU

IUSM has a variety of storage platforms available for research data. The amount of data, the approximate length of time the data needs to be stored, access needs, and data security needs (as defined by the funder and/or IU's data classification level) are factors in determining the best storage option for your data.

OneDrive
As part of IU's Microsoft 365 user accounts, OneDrive allows unlimited cloud-based sharing and storage of non-critical data.
Microsoft at IU Secure Storage
This storage option allows protected health information (PHI) and some other forms of critical data to be stored in Microsoft Teams folders configured for increased security compliance.
Google Drive
Store up to 5GB of non-critical data on Google Drive through an individual IU user account.
Google at IU Secure Storage
This storage option allows protected health information (PHI) and some other forms of critical data to be stored on approved Google Shared Drives for an annual fee.
Scholarly Data Archive (SDA)
Distributed system that allows for long-term storage of research data. Up to 50TB for IU affiliates, and beyond 50TB for a fee. If many small files need to be stored, they must be compressed first (tar, ZIP, GZip). Not intended as a substitute for a data repository as a sharing solution.
