This 3D Printing resource guide is intended to supplement the 3D printing service offered through the Ruth Lilly Medical Library Makerspace, the emerging technology maker space at the Ruth Lilly Medical Library. Here you will find our policies and procedures, our print request form, 3D modeling resources, and further information about 3D printing in medicine.

Due to a significant increase in demand, the Ruth Lilly Medical Library has begun charging for 3D print requests as of September 6th 2022. From this point on 3D prints can either be purchased from the Ruth Lilly Medical Library or free 3D prints can be printed with supervision through our Makerspace (IB202) either in person or via Zoom. All proceeds from paid 3D print requests goes back to the 3D print service and Makerspace to purchase materials and maintain equipment.

3D prints will be charged by model. The requester will never be charged until charges have been approved and the 3D print has been received by the requester.

*Requires dual extrusion

Some models require dual extrusion to print, this includes models with two colors or that require PVA (dissolvable) support structure. These models will not be able to be printed for free as the Makerspace 3D printer does not have dual extrusion capabilities. If this is the case, the requester will be alerted to that fact via email prior to an in-person or Zoom consultation. A single color version of the file can be printed for free using the Makerspace service.
