This guide was created to help faculty determine the impact that their research, etc. has had.
What are Altmetrics?
Altmetrics is the measurement of the impact an article has on social media such as:
- Social Media
- News Media
- Blogs
- Reference Managers (e.g. Mendeley)
- Other online conversations captured include YouTube, Wikipedia, Reddit, policy documents, etc.

PlumX metrics in ScopusScopus incorporates altmetrics through PlumX, which tracks digital engagement with scholarly publications. PlumX collects online interactions across articles, conference proceedings, book chapters, and other research outputs, organizing this data into five categories: Usage, Captures, Mentions, Social Media, and Citations. This tutorial describes the PlumX data found in Scopus.
