There are many other programs that can be used to create YouTube videos besides these three, including PowerPoint, Photoshop Elements, and Window Movie Maker. There are many tutorials on how to create videos to be uploaded onto YouTube. Theses tutorials can be accessed with a simple Google Search.
Information on the software at IUPUI and University Library can be found here and here.
TimelineJS is a tool from Knight Labs to create interactive timelines that can be used to tell a chronological story.
Pros: TimelineJS is a very easy tool. All you need is a Google spreadsheet and an Internet connection. It includes step-by-step instructions on how to create a timeline. No special software or skills needed for TimeLineJS. All you need is a browser. It is very easy to embed media like YouTube and Tweets.
Cons: All the images, video, and audio embedded into the TimeLineJS needed to be available via a public url, like www.example.com/image.jpg
The tutorial on how to use TimelineJS can be found here.
StoryMapJS is a tool from Knight Labs to create interactive maps that can be used to create a narrative.
Pros: StoryMapJs is very easy tool. It requires only a browser, a Google account, and an Internet connection. Unlike TimeLineJS, you can upload images you want to use or link to them. It is very easy to embed YouTube, Wikipedia articles, and Tweets.
Cons: While you can choose different style of maps, they cannot be customized. If you upload images, you will have to think about issues of public domain and permissions to use. If you choose to use an image instead of one of the maps (called Gigapixel) the tool is a little more difficult to use and requires Adobe Photoshop. However, there is step-by-step tutorials that walk you through creating a Gigapixel.
Help using StoryMap and Gigapixel can be found here and here.
