Electronic lab notebook (ELN) toolkit

This toolkit is intended to assist in the use of an electronic lab notebook at IU School of Medicine.

Create your account

You can set up a LabArchives account using your IU username and password. Select "Indiana University" from the list of institutions and sign in via two-factor authentication here: https://mynotebook.labarchives.com/login

LabArchives is provided free of charge by IUSM Research Affairs to support the conduct of research. Any user has the ability to create notebooks using LabArchives; however, as with paper notebooks, all information and data pertinent to research project/s are the responsibility of the principal investigator/s overseeing the research conducted.

If you are not a principal investigator (or designee), please consult the head of your lab/group/team before using LabArchives to capture research information and/or data. If you have questions about these requirements, please contact IUSMELN@iu.edu.

Training opportunities

Training sessions are provided by the Ruth Lilly Medical Library through monthly classes and by appointment (links below). A training session runs for 1 hour and include best practices for setting up an ELN (e.g., notebook structure, information/data management strategies) and hands-on practice using LabArchives. Trainings requested by appointment can be customized to the requesting audience.
