AI Literacy in Research - A Self-Guided Tutorial

AI Literacy in Research

As you do research, you may have thought about or already begun integrating generative AI (genAI) tools into your research process.

In order to get the most out of genAI tools but also ensure your research is effective and ethical, this self-guided tutorial is intended to help you:

  1. Implement best practices related to maintaining data security.

  1. Assess the fit of particular genAI tools for a given desired project outcome.

  1. Understand the importance of intentionality in research design when it comes to incorporating AI tools.

  1. Become knowledgeable regarding ongoing conversations on scholarly publishing ethics and AI.

AI Literacy

AI Literacy is the ability to know, understand, evaluate, and ethically use AI technology. In this tutorial, we're focusing more on generative AI as AI tools have existed for some time (e.g., spell checker in Word). Generative AI introduces complexity as there is a larger creation aspect on the part of the genAI technology. This tutorial is focused on genAI in research. For more information on critiquing genAI outputs and inputs, see our Evaluation Tutorial.
