Mpox Virus

Overview

In the 2022 MPX outbreak it is important to stress two important points regarding virus transmission:

  1. "Anyone, regardless of sexual orientation, can spread monkeypox through contact with body fluids, monkeypox sores, or shared items (such as clothing and bedding) that have been contaminated with fluids or sores of a person with monkeypox " CDC media statement on 5/18/22
  2. "While currently there may be a portion of cases noted within a particular community, communicable diseases can show up in all communities. All communities need accurate information. Anyone can get MPV if they come into contact with it." GLAAD Guidance Factsheet for Reporters on Monkeypox (MPV) and the LGBTQ Community
